KCJ Finance Director and pals cycle 315 miles to Paris
Practice area: General
L to R: Neil Aitken, Simon King, John Wootton and Nigel Ball
Neil Aitken, Finance Director at Kester Cunningham John Solicitors, has cycled from London to Paris with a group of pals and raised over £18,000 for Cancer Research.
The team which also included John Wootton, Simon King and Nigel Ball, cycled 315 miles (507km) from London via Calais, arriving in Paris four days later.
Neil says: "We planned to travel from Tower Bridge to the Eiffel Tower, though we had to find our own route along the way, which was more of a challenge than we could have imagined.
"We carried all our own equipment, with some panniers weighing 15 kilos (33lb), which was hard work at the best of times, especially in some of the weather conditions we faced.
"On day two we woke to gale force winds and cancelled channel crossings and were faced with having to cycle 80 miles along the hilly French coast head on into the 50 mph winds. Thinking it couldn't get much worse, once we did turn towards Paris (after 5 hours battling into the headwind) we were then besieged by 24 hours of rain and 19 punctures. By the end of it our tyre changes would have made an F1 pit crew proud - a necessity in the pouring rain!
Neil adds: "The target was to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research, a charity close to all our hearts, and by doing the ride unaided and paying for the whole trip ourselves, we've raised over £18,000, all of which will go directly to the charity and not to any third party trip organiser, which is wonderful."
"The ride was incredible, both personally and physically, and we're all extremely grateful to everyone who has been kind enough to donate".
