Solicitors expect more couples to seek pre-nuptial advice
Practice area: Family Law
Solicitors in the UK are predicting an upturn in the number of couples seeking pre-nuptial advice.
According to a study by Unbiased.co.uk, two-thirds of legal professionals are expecting the number of clients looking to draw up a pre-nuptial agreement to rise between now and 2014.
Karen Barrett, chief executive of the group, said this trend is likely to be partly fuelled by the media coverage given to some high profile
divorce cases.
"It is not surprising that more people are looking to protect their assets ahead of getting married," she commented.
The poll also found that 82 per cent of solicitors consider a pre-nuptial agreement a good way of protecting assets during a
divorce case.
Only two per cent of respondents said they are expecting a drop in the number of people seeking pre-nups over the next five years.
The findings come after
family law specialist Baroness Deech called for pre-nups to be made legally binding.
