Steph Booth to make compensation claim after redundancy
Practice area: Employee News
Prospective Labour MP Steph Booth is to make a compensation claim after being selected for
redundancy by a charity organisation.
The candidate for Calder Valley, who is the stepmother of Cherie Blair, is initiating legal action via an employment tribunal after alleging that she was unfairly dismissed by children's charity Cool UK.
She was previously employed by the firm in the capacity of development director between 2008 and 2009, reports the London Evening Standard.
In addition to her claim for unfair dismissal and breach of contract against the company, Ms Booth is also alleging that the charity is guilty of breaching health and safety law.
This comes after prominent female scientist Baroness Greenfield last week revealed that she will be taking legal action after being selected for
redundancy by the Royal Institution.
According to the most recent Tribunals Service figures, the number of claims for unfair dismissal rose by almost 30 per cent between 2008 and 2009 as a result of the recession.
